A Lady Awakened

A Lady Awakened - Cecilia Grant When I read a romance novel I want to see believable characters falling in love. I want to sympathize with their plights and root for them to overcome their obstacles. I had a hard time with this novel. I could never understand why on earth Theo (who was caring and interesting) would fall in love with Martha (who was the worst kind of moralizer). I expected Martha to loosen up her prejudices about Theo, but what happened instead was that he tried to become the sort of man that she would want. Her inner dialogue doesn't help, as it does little to make her more sympathetic. I wouldn't like her much if I met her in real life, and I didn't like her here. Two stars for the interesting premise and the colorful supporting characters (and the pig! I loved the pig!)
